KEYNOTE: Five reasons not to use AI in testing - and why you will use it anyhow

With the arrival of Generative AI (GenAI), the IT landscape shifted dramatically.

In this interactive keynote session you may be asking questions like: Can we use GenAI to support our quality engineering activities? Should we? And more importantly: How do we deliver the right level of quality in systems that use GenAI?

It's easy to get swept up in the promises of efficiency and automation.

In our community of Quality Engineers and Testers, we will not blindly embrace Generative AI without considering the risks, won’t we?
In this talk Rik will take a hard look at the reality of using GenAI and, in conversation with you (the audience) explore why, in quite some cases, you should NOT use it. Subjects like bias, over-automation and confabulation are important sources of AI-caused trouble.
And humans also are an important positive or negative factor for getting the right quality or not. A human-in-the-loop is not enough, you need an expert in the lead!

Skills like critical thinking, exploration, and curiosity become vital when working with GenAI.

Because of the rise of GenAI and Agentic AI, the field of Quality Engineering and Testing will rise to a new level of importance. The complexity and speed at which AI systems evolve require a new approach to quality engineering. It is not sufficient to rely solely on the output of AI; we must thoroughly test and validate the processes and algorithms behind that output. So we need to have a broad view and take joint responsibility to achieve the right quality at the right moment.

During this keynote I'll use the knowledge we recently published in the TMAP book "Amplified Quality Engineering".
One thing is for sure: AI has been invented and cannot be un-invented, so we will have to deal with it. Use it wisely.

My main message is:

  • Don’t use GenAI…
  • Unless, you know what you’re doing…
  • And you are willing and able to take full responsibility for the consequences, even if the results prove to be incorrect!!

Amplify your Quality Engineering with and for GenAI!!
